Our Story

A small cafe with a long memory.

Founded in Dubai in 2014, Zelexto began as one machine, two friends, and a long shared belief — that a cup of coffee is worth taking seriously.

Chapter One

It started with one machine.

In the spring of 2014, two friends opened a small counter on a quiet stretch of Marasi Drive. There was a single La Marzocco, a hand-cranked grinder, and a long bench salvaged from an old library. The plan was simple — make coffee the way we wished someone else would.

Eleven years on, the bench is still there. We’ve added a roaster, a pastry kitchen, and a few more chairs — but the discipline hasn’t changed. Every blend is built around a single tasting note we want to honour. Every morning starts with the same calibration ritual. Every regular is greeted by name.

Zelexto Cafe is what happens when restraint meets care. We don’t serve sixty drinks. We serve twenty-five, and we serve them well.

Philosophy

Make less. Make it well.

We believe the room is part of the cup. Walnut, brushed brass, low light, and a record always somewhere on the turntable. Nothing on the menu is decorative — every bean, every petal, every layer of butter is on the plate because it earns its place.

Our team trains for a year before pulling shots. Our pastries are baked twice daily and never the day before. If we wouldn’t serve it to our family, we won’t serve it to you.

Behind the Bar

Meet our head barista, Mariam.

A WBC finalist and certified Q-grader, Mariam has spent fourteen years on espresso bars from Melbourne to Milan. She leads the cupping table every Tuesday morning, and personally trains every barista on the floor.

If you sit at the bar, ask her about the Yirgacheffe. The look she gets is the reason this place exists.
